River Boyne - Energy : Liminal

The Energy -

Liminal space is the threshold... the space between... the transition point... the place full of potential where anything can happen.  This is the change point, the ninety degree shift place, the energy that can attract or disperse.

The Places -

The river is itself liminal, being between two banks.

The Pale was that part of Ireland conquered, garrisoned and settled by Anglo Normans.  It consisted of an area around Dublin at first reaching from Dundalk to Kilkenny.  But it could not be sustained by the conquerors and reduced in size over the years. The actual line of the border moved as it was often under attack.  The Boyne was part of the Pale border. The establishment of the boundary involved the building of castles, the digging of trenches, and all enforced by the State and the Church.

The Mouth of Boyne is a place of transition where invaders land and adventurers leave.  Echtrae Airt meic Cuinn sails a coracle from here and discovers a wonderful island inhabited by beautiful women, Colptha is said to be the first of the Milesians to land here. But Colptha is also said to have drowned here, making another type of transition.
